Damask is a weaving technique with its origin in China and the Orient (Damascus).
Warp and weft is used in a special way to create a pattern.
It does not matter what material is used.
We live on a farm in Österlen (Osterlen)
- 3 km from the famous Ales stenar standing
stones at Kåseberga
- 300 m from the softly undulating hills at Hammar.
The weaving studio is in one of the buildings of our farm representative of Skåne - a provincial, peaceful and inspiring environment. The farm has been handed down for five generations. We modernized it in 1988 by converting the pigsty into a studio for weaving damask linen.
All damask of Dahlåkra is woven of flax - in a artistic way - and it is of a very high quality.
Some of the flax used as weft is grown on our farm. We have cultivated flax for many years. Thereby is it possible to get the variations in shade wanted.
After dressing the flax I spin it on a spinning-wheel and use it in weaving the damask.
The damask is for sale at the studio at Dahlåkra or at exhibitions.
Welcome for a visit at the studio, in Hammar in the south part of Sweden.
Groups of visitors can be taken care of, after
agreement of day and time.
